What an absolute incredible day of play here in Traralgon at the Latrobe City Traralgon Challenger.
We started the day with both semi-final matches to be completed after rain halted play last night. Both Marc Polmans (VIC) and Andrew Harris (VIC) came from a set down to extend their matches into a third set. Both matches going the distance to a final set tie-breaker with Polman advancing 5-7 6-2 7-6(4) over Hiroki Moriya (JPN) and Harris advancing 4-6 7-6(2) 7-6(7) over Tatsuma Ito (JPN).
Whilst the singles finalists rested and recovered for the final, the doubles final was conducted on centre court. After a slow start, which ended in a tie-break the top seeds Max Purcell (NSW) and Luke Savile (SA) were able to claim victory over the unseeded pairing of Brydan Klein (GBR) and Scott Puodziunas (QLD) 6-7(2) 6-3 10-4.
Games stayed on serve in the first set of the singles final up until 5all when Marc Polmans (VIC) came through with the vital break of serve, he went on to serve out the set 7-5. From there Polmans looked to be in control of the rallies, taking the second set and the match 6-3. Polman’s claims his second ATP Challenger title of 2019 and his third overall.
